Crone

Evil Aligned

The Crone, a jaded old Villager, is just too old for this craziness. With the aid of magic, she can steal the voice of one of the townspeople, rendering them unable to participate in the day's events. Once muted, they are also unable to defend themselves, becoming one more cold body for the Gravedigger to look after. However, she must pick her target wisely - her enchantment becomes ineffective if used on the same person in succession.

How to GM

During the Identification Phase, have the Crone open her eyes and point to someone to Silence.

During the Night Phase, have the Crone open her eyes and point to someone to Silence. She can't pick the same person two nights in a row.

- "Crone, open your eyes, and choose someone to Silence."
- "Crone, close your eyes."

After the Crone has chosen her victim, tap that person and announce that they have been Silenced. The Silenced player may not accuse anyone or speak, but they are permitted to vote. The village has their eyes closed and only knows the general location of where the Silenced player is sitting. This helps deter harassment towards those that get Silenced.

Alternate Rules

Secret Silence
Rather than announcing who has been silenced in the normal way, instead simply tap the silenced player. When doing this, walk around the entire circle while talking so that it's not obvious who was tapped. This rule will reduce harassment (metagaming) against the person who is silenced. This can be slightly advantageous to the good team.

Open Silence
Rather than announcing who has been silenced in the normal way, wait until after dead bodies are collected and announce it openly, pointing to the person that was silenced. This rule encouragees harassment (metagaming) against the person who is silenced. This can be slightly advantageous to the evil team.

Mysterious Mystery Game
To add more mystery to a Mystery Game, have the Town Mayor take the role of the Crone and other roles that have a visible nightly effect on the game. In this instance, try and roleplay the actions the Crone would normally perform, creating chaos in the village. Note that this variant of the Mystery Game rules requires a very experienced GM.

Frequently Asked Questions

Strategies and Tips

Silence the ones who are starting to figure things out. It may be easier to lynch them after they are Slienced. If nothing else, it can be very satisfying to watch them try to defend themselves without being able to speak.
